Meet Your Council

Your Council is a committed group of elected officials working to make Twillingate ideal for its residents, families and a growing economy. Discover our municipal plan, our taxes and regulations, and all the services the council provides to the residents and businesses in the Town of Twillingate.

Budget

Twillingate charges property, poll, water/sewer and business taxes to pay the day-to-day operating expenses of the town. These include, but are not limited to: water and sewer maintenance, snow clearing, street lighting, recreation facility maintenance, fire protection, road maintenance, garbage collection and administration (i.e. external auditor, legal council, insurance). We calculate the Municipal Tax for your property and business based on the property’s assessed value and a council-approved mill rate. Water/Sewer tax is calculated on a per unit basis.

Council Meetings and Minutes

Town Council Meetings take place on the second Monday of each month, unless otherwise announced. All correspondence to Council must be submitted in writing (email or letter) at least two full working days prior to the Council meeting.

Delegations to Council must notify the Town Office at least two weeks preceding the Council meeting so the item can be placed on the agenda.

Policies & Regulations

Twillingate’s Municipal Plan sets out the future land use for our municipality taking into consideration the quality of life for the residents, such as economic development, infrastructure development, and environmental values. The Future Land Use Plans show land designated for these future uses.

The Development Regulations are the municipal implementation tool of the Municipal Plan and they set out the land use zones that are consistent with the Plan. The Development Regulations contain technical standards such as, lot size, buffers and setbacks, and site development suitability criteria.

Building & Development

Planning a new development, renovation or building? All development in the Town of Twillingate requires a Building & Development Permit from the Town. As per the Town’s Development Regulations, this includes any building, engineering, mining or other operations in, on, over or under land. If you’re unsure if your plans require a permit, contact us to find out.
